Cassville, Wisconsin
"Where History, Bald Eagles and the Mississippi Meet"
Cassville, settled in 1827 (current population 947), is located under the bluffs and along the east bank of the Mississippi River.
Nelson Dewey, (who would become Wisconsin's first governor in 1848) ferried across the Mississippi River from the Turkey River landing to Cassville in 1836. The Cassville Car Ferry still provides service to the Turkey River landing!
During the 1860's, Dewey began construction of his 2,000 acre estate which he named "Stonefield". This is the location of the present Stonefield Historic Site which includes: Nelson Dewey State Park; Stonefield Village (an 1890's village); an Agricultural Museum and Nelson Dewey Homesite.
The municipal swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts and Sand Bar Lounge and Lanes with bowling and volleyball courts are an asset to the community.
Other recreational opportunities abound. Boating, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, biking or just relaxing in the beauty and tranquility of the area is available for all.
Cassville Municipal Airport contains a hard surface, lighted 3,000 foot runway which is within walking distance of downtown and Riverside Park. It runs parallel to Jack Oak Road where homes and the marina are located.
