Lancaster Wisconsin Community Information

The county seat of Grant County WI, Lancaster has a population of 4018. The residents are extremely involved in community activities including church and school programs, sports and recreation activities, 4-H and Scout groups, adult service organizations, charitable fund-raising events, and neighbor-helping-neighbor projects. The active Chamber of Commerce sponsors numerous community events and concerts throughout the year.

Economic Development

Lancaster has two well-developed industrial parks. The new Arrow Ridge Industrial Park has large and small industrial sites available. Milprint packaging, Skyline modular homes, Foremost Farms dairy plant, Shakeproof Industries, Loudspeaker Components, and Woolwich Dairy goat cheese plant are major industrial employers. The county and city government offices, the school, hospital and care centers are also major employers. Tourism and Things to Do

Grant County WI Courthouse, Lancaster WIThe historic glass-domed Grant County Courthouse is a favorite of history and architectural enthusiasts. The first Civil War monument ever erected in Wisconsin stands on the northeast corner of the courthouse square. Other historical sites include downtown buildings from the early 1800s, the gravesite of Nelson Dewey (Wisconsin's first governor), houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and nearby Pleasant Ridge, one of the first African-American settlements in Wisconsin. The Grant County History Museum has an extensive collection of historical items including a special display of Civil War era items.

Recreation opportunities include 18 hole municipal golf course, tennis courts, bowling, swimming pool, movie theater, ball diamonds, soccer fields, and excellent parks. The Grant County Fair is held at the fairgrounds in Lancaster annually in August. Residents participate in several community service organizations, youth programs, the Community Theater Players, and the Lancaster Community Band, featuring adults from all around the southwest Wisconsin area. Visitors enjoy area snowmobile trails, trout streams, campgrounds, bike trails, and canoeing area rivers. Stop and enjoy delicious food at one of our restaurants while you are in Lancaster.
