Muscoda Wisconsin Community Information

Nestled among the rolling hills along the Wisconsin River, Muscoda (pronounced MUS-co-day), Wisconsin, is a growing community of 1,299. A new Riverdale preK-8 elementary school was completed in Muscoda in the fall of 1996. Information technology was an important part of the plan for the new school. Muscoda schools have a Distance Learning Center that links them to Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, UW-Platteville, and 11 other schools throughout the area.

Economic Development

Muscoda has over 100 acres of industrial park and commercial properties are available. The major industries in the park are: Scot Industries, Universal Silencer, Meister Cheese, Muscoda Protein, Nelson Hardwoods and Rux Strapping. Muscoda's business district moved from the river to its present location after the arrival of the railroad in 1856. Most of downtown Muscoda's buildings date to this post-railroad economic boom period. (See Muscoda Economic Profile.)

Tourism and Things to Do

Geese on the Wisconsin River at MuscodaIn 1982, Muscoda became known as the "Morel Mushroom Capital" of Wisconsin. The Morel Mushroom Festival is held each year during the weekend after Mother's Day.

The metal sculpture works of Tom Nelson and his father Ellis, have gained national attention and have been featured on Good Morning America. Scraps of iron and pieces of steel come to life in the form of animals, prehistoric dinosaurs and moving contraptions at Dark Metal Artworks.

Muscoda has over 30 acres of land devoted to public outdoor recreation, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, ballparks, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, campgrounds, playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing, river overlook and nature walkways along the river.

Spurgeon Vineyards and Winery 16008 Pinetree Rd., Highland, WI 53543, is an easy drive from Muscoda.
