Platteville Wisconsin Community Information

With a population of just over 10,000, Platteville is the largest city in Grant County. The community is home to the University of Wisconsin - Platteville and boasts an excellent school system, numerous eating establishments, and a complete range of service and retail businesses. The new hospital provides up-to-date medical services.

Economic Development

Platteville has fully developed Industrial Parks with the infrastructure and utility services to support any manufacturing or industrial business. Availability of commercial properties, direct access to 4-lane Highway 151, and economic incentives draw businesses to Platteville. Tourism and Things to Do

Platteville, WisconsinThere are always things to do in Platteville. The community has an excellent Parks and Rec department with large city parks, ball fields, aquatic center, bowling alleys, golf course, cross-country ski trails, hiking trails and other recreation activities. The large movie theater is always busy and there are places to eat featuring all types of cuisine.

The wide variety of professional and collegiate events, including fine arts and athletic events, draw thousands of visitors to the community each year. Many people climb the world's largest "M" located east of town, at the top of the Platteville Mound. Constructed of limestone and measuring 214 feet by 241 feet, the letter represents the first Mining School in the United States. You may be interested in touring the Platteville Mining & Rollo Jamison Museum and the Mitchell-Roundtree Stone Cottage (1837).

Residents of the community are involved in school, church, music, 4-H, Scouts, adult community service organizations, and youth and adult recreation programs. The Chamber of Commerce hosts special activities throughout the year including Music in the Park during the summer months, Hometown Festival Week in July, Historic Re-enactment and Platteville Dairy Days over Labor Day weekend, and a working model train exhibit in February.
