
The Emergency 911 center currently staffs four full time dispatchers
and three full time call takers. The county serves as the dispatch center
for four cities, fourteen villages, and thirty-three townships. With the
exception of Platteville, the Sheriff's Department dispatches for all police,
fire, rescue, DNR, coroners, health department, and social services in Grant
County.
The jail, which is currently in line for major redevelopment, is
staffed at all time's by a female and a male jailer. There are currently
eight full time jailers and several part time jailers. The ten cellblocks
and three holding cells have the capability of housing fifty-five
inmates. The entire jail facility is monitored with an in house video
system for safety. The jail recently implemented a video imaging system
designed to facilitate identification and classification of inmates.
The 2,077 miles of Grant County are patrolled 24 hours a day, every
day of the year by the sixteen road officers. The duties and
responsibilities of the road officers are as varied as the communities and
citizens, which they serve. The officers are responsible for serving
legal papers, traffic patrol, warrant execution, accident investigation,
assisting municipalities, and responding to unlimited calls for service.
The officers also work closely with the District Attorneys Office, Probation
and Parole Agency, and Social Services. They may also be called upon to
testify in court for civil, traffic, and criminal matters.
The investigative division involves two deputies and a Sergeant. Their main duties involve investigating and following up on crimes and leads within the county. The investigators work closely with the local agencies and Crime Stoppers.
