Located along US Highway 18, Montfort is on the Grant and Iowa County line. The 2010 census lists a population of 718 people. While Montfort provides a quiet, rural atmosphere, it is only 45 minutes from Dubuque, Iowa, and 60 minutes from Madison.
Montfort is part of the Iowa Grant School District. The community also has a library, a bowling alley, and a city park with a beautiful swimming pool, walking trail, ball diamond, climbing toys and picnic tables. There are several businesses that supply excellent meals.
Rural Route 1 Popcorn retail store on Highway 18 is always a busy place. The store features specialty flavors of popcorn and has an extensive gift shop which includes handcrafts by local artisans. After you have your popcorn, be sure to walk across the road to Grab-A-Cone for the best ice cream in the area!
Montfort holds their annual Big Days the first weekend in June with various activities such as a 2 mile Run/Walk, Rib Contest, Dance, Beer Tent, their famous VFW Chicken BBQ and the Big Parade on Sunday. Be sure to get there early though before the chicken runs out!
