Bird Watching in Grant County WI

Variety of Birds and Waterfowl in the areaWith the Mississippi River forming the western border of Grant County, there are many locations along the river to view eagles, osprey, and other migratory birds. The Upper Mississippi River Fish and Wildlife Refuge provides excellent viewing areas in Cassville and Potosi for studying birds along the Mississippi River. The numerous rivers and streams, natural vegetation and forest lands of southwest Wisconsin provide excellent habitat for a wide variety of songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, and other families of birds.

Potosi Point
Eagle Part of the Upper Mississippi River Wildlife and Fish Refuge, Potosi Point includes a new viewing platform. Extending over the water, the platform creates a feeling of being on the Mississippi River without being on a boat. View Herons, Egrets, Ducks, Pelicans, Tundra Swans, Yellow Headed Blackbirds and Bank Swallows. Contact 608-763-2261 for more information.

Wyalusing State Park
Located in Grant County near Prairie du Chien, Wyalusing State Park sits atop scenic bluffs above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers. Watch for the Kentucky warbler, Acadian flycatcher, red-shouldered hawk, and other spring migrants (May), and raptors that migrate along the bluffs in fall.
