Grant County, Wisconsin, has a strong history in engineering, and it is due in large part to the strength of our K-12 schools and the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Our K-12 schools average a graduation rate of over 95% and score consistently high in Standardized Testing scores. UW-Platteville is a nationally known college of engineering and sciences. In 2019, UW-P graduated 485 engineers, including degrees in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Software engineering. 2019 enrollment number in engineering was 2,922.

Because of this history and strength of engineering, the Army National Guard's 829th Engineering Company is located in Platteville, as well as in other armories in southwest Wisconsin.

AVISTA, owned by Esterline, is an aviation engineering software business located in Platteville. They employ 200 software engineers, as well as support staff. AVISTA produces software utilized in the aviation industries, including the commercial airline industry. AVISTA is here because of our region's engineering prowess.
